Wattage
The motor is the heart of any blender. However, the many watts the motor has will significantly influence how easy it is to blend various ingredients.
In this regard, the BL456 and BL450 are completely tied. Both have 900-watt motors, which are pretty powerful. You’ll find it equally easy to blast through veggies, seeds, and ice on either one.
Single-Serve Pitchers
Some blenders come with huge, towering pitchers designed to brew multiple servings in one use. These can be excellent for families or gatherings.
But if only one person will use the blender to make drinks or recipes for themselves, there isn’t a need to have such a large pitcher. It would just take up space on your counter.
The BL456 and BL450 are both suitable for single-serving portions. They’re wonderful for making beverages for one person. Furthermore, because their blending pitchers are modestly sized, both these blenders are compact and won’t hog your countertops.

We think one of the most convenient things about the BL456 and BL450 is the to-go lids that come with them. As we mentioned previously, the blending pitchers function both as the top of the blender and as the cup you can drink out of.
They wouldn’t be so useful, though, if they didn’t come with lids, would they? Your mixtures would be at risk of spilling, creating a mess, and making you lose your meal.
Fortunately, both include to-go cup lids. Once you’re done blending, you can remove the blades, screw on the lid, and take your drink on the road with you.
Dishwasher-Safe Parts
One of the worst parts about home cooking is the cleanup. Nothing is quite as draining as having to rinse and scrub everything out.
The fact that both blenders have dishwasher-safe components is part of their attraction. There is no need to spend long hours in front of your sink digging a sponge into the pitcher’s nooks and crannies. When you’re done drinking from the pitcher, you can give them a quick rinse and toss them in your dishwasher.
Manual Pulse Control
Some blenders have complex settings, with panels full of speeds to try. All these settings can be wonderful if you use your blender to make pretty much everything.
However, if you’re simply using your blender to make small serving sizes for yourself, you won’t necessarily need to use a ton of settings. The BL456 and BL450 are nicely pared-down, with only one manual pulse control.
To use either one, all you need to do is screw the extractor blades on the top of the pitcher. Once that’s done, put the pitcher in place by screwing the part with blades on it into the base. Push down on the pitcher to run the blender.

Differences
Ninja BL450 Discontinuation
There’s only one big difference between the BL456 and the BL450: the BL450 has been discontinued. Because of that, it might be more difficult to find for sale anywhere.
Likewise, replacement parts might be harder to locate if you end up needing them. It’s certainly not impossible to locate a BL450 – we’ve found one online – but it’s not easy, either.
Which One Should You Buy?
Choosing between either the Ninja BL456 or the BL450 isn’t as hard as you might expect. Remember, they’re essentially the same blender, with the main difference being that the BL450 has been discontinued.
If you’d like one blender, you’d probably like the other. However, the BL450 and its parts might be tricky to find because of its discontinuation.
For that reason, we would personally recommend just going with the Ninja BL456 if you like the look of either of these blenders. You’ll get all the same features as the BL450, and it will be easier for you to find it and potentially its replacement parts.
