Because they test on animals, makeup brands you can buy at just about any drugstore or supermarket like Maybelline, CoverGirl and L’Oreal are not vegan. But Target carries plenty of cruelty-free makeup brands that don’t go anywhere near animal-testing.
Below, we’ve listed nine vegan makeup brands you can find right at Target for all your contouring and highlighting needs…
1. Wet n Wild
Wet n Wild promises to never, ever test its products on animals, which we love the company for (and Target for carrying it). This brand happens to make some fabulous MegaLast Lip Colors that pop from a mile away. With added Vitamin E for a silky pout, they’ll moisturize your lips and last a good four hours before needing to be reapplied.
2. Ardell
PETA-endorsed and glamour gal-approved, Ardell makes some of makeup artists’ favorite lashes for day and evening wear. Ardell’s Wispies are feathered to look like your natural lashes, just a little lusher and fuller. No need to tell anyone they’re not your own—our little secret.
3. Physician’s Formula
Whether you’re plumping up your falsies or getting ready for work, Physician’s Formula Fake Out Mascara is a solid choice for the organic crowd. This makeup brand prefers to use safe human trials with trained dermatologists instead of testing on animals, happily making Fake Out Mascara vegan, organic and beautifully lash-lengthening.
4. NYX
The good news about NYX is that it does not test on animals. The bad news is that it was bought by L’Oreal in 2014, and L’Oreal does conduct animal testing. Nevertheless, NYX remains cruelty-free as of this writing. If you like dramatic eyeliners in fun colors, check out NYX Vivid Bright Liners in colors like Sapphire and tangerine-tinted Delight.
5. Milani

For vegan blush, try Milani’s Rose Powder Blush. The shades are subtle for a fresh face and totally ideal for daytime looks. If you try it and love it, Milani also offers a range of professional products from primers to setting sprays. From start to finish, Milani has your back.
6. EcoTools
Not sure where to get vegan makeup brushes and applicators? Check Target for EcoTools sets like the Refresh in 5 Multitasking Brush Kit. It’s got brushes of varying shapes and sizes for blending, covering and smoothing liquids, powders, brows and lashes. Plus, it’s eco-conscious and made from recycled materials.
7. Sonia Kashuk
Target’s makeup brand Sonia Kashuk is vegan-friendly and gets great reviews for its cosmetics tools. The Wide Eyelash Curler is designed to spread out over your lashes for an even, comfortable curl.
8. e.l.f.
The vegan company e.l.f. does its part to spread the cruelty-free message, donating to charities that support animal rights and working with vegan promoters. The e.l.f. Baked Highlighter is said to be hydrating and dewy with its vitamin content, and best of all, it won’t cost an arm and a leg.
9. Pacifica
Vegans adore Pacifica, and so do we. The Dreamlit Under Eye Brightener is just what you need when you haven’t quite gotten enough sleep to prevent those telltale dark circles. Check out Pacifica’s whole line of vegan makeup at Target, including Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara and Neutralizing Mattifier for the finishing touches.
