If you’re new to veganism, you need to know that many lotions aren’t vegan. If they contain lanolin (from sheep’s wool) or beeswax, they’re definitely not vegan, but they could also be made with animal byproducts under unrecognizable names.
That’s why we created this list of five plant-based lotions at Target for safe shopping.
Take a look.
1. Hempz Pomegranate Herbal Body Moisturizer
Don’t worry, there’s no THC in this stuff. Just vegan lotion rich in antioxidant ingredients like pomegranate and vitamins C, A and E. It’s lightweight with a nice fruity smell, but if pomegranate isn’t your favorite, you can try the flowery, banana-y Original.
2. Mrs. Meyers Lavender Hand Lotion
The great thing about Mrs. Meyers lotion is that it’s gentle and non-greasy. With almost entirely natural ingredients, save a few formaldehyde-free preservatives, this plant-based lotion is earth-friendly and good to the skin. And there’s not a trace of animal byproducts in it.
3. Alba Botanica Very Emollient Unscented Body Lotion

According to Alba Botanica’s website, only its lip products, Unpetroleum Jelly and Hawaiian Smoothing Sugar Cane Body Polish aren’t vegan, which means that its lotions are. The Unscented body lotion is the candidate for those who can’t take fragrances. On the vegan ingredients list are moisturizing shea butter and safflower, sesame seed and avocado oils. It seems to have quite a dedicated following, too.
4. Pacifica Cactus & Kale Oil-Free Renewal Lotion
Pacifica is where it’s at for vegan beauty and personal care products. As a face and body lotion, the Cactus & Kale Oil-Free Renewal Lotion takes care of irritating dryness without leaving an oily residue. With the aid of cactus, vitamin E and antioxidant-rich damascus rose, there’s almost no dry environment this lotion can’t beat.
5. Acure Everyday Eczema Lotion
Featuring colloidal oatmeal and aloe to calm skin aggravated by eczema, this scentless lotion comes highly recommended. It’s vegan and contains no parabens, sulfates, petrolatum or silicone. Even if you don’t have eczema, this lotion can help if you’re a sensitive skin type or suffer from dry, chapped skin.
