Question of the Day: Can I Use Cumin Instead of Ginger?
Quick Answer: We would not recommend using cumin to replace ginger as the flavors are just far too different and distinct. Ginger has more of a bright, spicy, and citrusy flavor while cumin is more earthy and aromatic. In order to replace ginger, you may want to consider other spices such as allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, or turmeric. These aren’t exactly the same but are a much closer match than cumin because they have more of a bright yet spicy flavor profile (aside from turmeric which is more earthy and mild).
