Question of the Day: Can I Use Basil Instead of Sage?
Quick Answer: Absolutely! Basil makes an excellent replacement for sage and you can make a 1 to 1 replacement for almost any recipe. This goes for dried or fresh, but you’ll notice less of a flavor difference when you replace dried sage with dried basil. Both of these herbs have a slightly peppery taste, but basil tends to be sweeter and less earthy than sage is.
However, in a cooked dish your guests are not likely to pick up on these differences, especially when there are other spices present in the recipe.
