Why go for a Black and Decker?

Black and Decker is a well-established brand with a good reputation for creating sturdy tools for home use. Their foray into the blender market has been marked by simple, effective machines, and affordable machines that do what they need to do – with simple button interfaces and classic blender designs, they’re not necessarily anything fresh or original, but they do well and they get the job done.

What are the differences between the models?

When it comes to differences between the models, surprisingly there aren’t that many. They all have roughly similar two/three year-warranties, which is a little above the average for most blenders on the market. They all come with pulse functions and a choice of speeds, although some have more speeds than others – the BS600 has three speeds, while the FusionBlade has twelve.

Most of these models have motor power between 450 and 550 watts, but one, the Performance FusionBlade, has 1100W. This makes it a whole lot more effective at blending. All except the BS600 have dishwasher-safe parts, which makes for easy clean-up.

Appearance-wise, they’re all fairly similar. All have tall containers, all of which are roughly the same size. All but the Performance FusionBlade and the BS600 have button-switches to change between different speeds; the Performance FusionBlade has a push-button interface, while the BS600 has a large dial on the side that can be switched between different speeds.

Smoothies on tap are within reach with the BLACK+DECKER Smoothie Maker.

The decision for which blender appeals most to you depends on what you find most important in a blender. If it’s blending power, the Performance FusionBlade is the obvious choice, with significantly higher motor strength than anything else; if it’s appearance, the FusionBlade is the most attractive design and comes in two colors. If you’re making smoothies all the time, go for the specific smoothie-maker, the BS600; if you want to crush ice, go for the inbuilt ice-crushing features of the Crush Master; if you want simplicity, go for the 10-Speed.

The Performance FusionBlade is the best blender on this list mainly because of its motor strength. It has a 1100W motor, which is more than double the other blenders on this list, and this means it’s going to be better at just about anything than any of them. When it comes to doing what a blender does – blending – this means that as a rule it’s just going to be better at it.

It has five different speed options and a pulse setting, so you can get pretty specific with the blade speed and have greater control over the machine. It also comes with two containers – one 64-oz container and one 20-oz personal blender jar, both of which can be used on the base. This is massively beneficial – if you’re looking to make a single-serve easy breakfast smoothie to take on the go, the personal blender jar can be fitted with a lid and taken on the go with you, instead of you having to pour from a larger container into a travel mug and clean both.

This model has the longest warranty on the list, a 3-year limited warranty that may represent its increased motor strength; the more powerful the motor, the less likely it’s going to be stressed by difficult tasks, and so the longer it should last.

The Performance FusionBlade is an excellent choice from the BLACK+DECKER range, with a powerful motor and a slightly longer warranty than the other models.

PROS

  • 1100W motor
  • Pulse
  • 5 speeds
  • Dishwasher-safe parts
  • 3-year limited warranty

CONS

  • Tall container
  • No pre-programmed settings

The FusionBlade is the second-best blender in this line-up for a couple of reasons. It has the second-highest motor strength, and potentially the most attractive design. It comes in two colors, too – red and silver – so it’s a great option if you’re looking for a more unique-looking machine.

Although it only has a 550W motor strength, it’s named for its FusionBlade – a patented design that’s meant to crush ice and evenly blend by drawing food into the blades. So it might be a more effective blender than just the wattage alone would signify.

It has 12 different speeds to help you very closely control the speed of the motor, and its 6-cup glass blending container is dishwasher-safe. This is a really good choice for if you don’t need a whole lot of strength in your machine, and you’d like a more attractive design than the other models on this list.

PROS

  • Pulse
  • Attractive design
  • 12 speeds
  • Two color options
  • Dishwasher-safe parts

CONS

  • 550W motor
  • Tall container
  • No pre-programmed settings

The Crush Master is a fairly classic blender, with standard specs. It has a fairly weak 450W motor, so it’s probably not strong enough to deal with many of the harder objects that you might want to blend. However, it is marketed as being the “crush master”, so it comes with a specific ice crush button that’s designed to do just that. That would imply that this machine is stronger than it might appear.

You can choose from 10 different speeds at which to run the motor, and there’s also a pulse setting. The container is 42 ounces and glass, and as a result it’s dishwasher-safe for easy clean-up. This model has a motor-overheat protection system to prevent motor damage with heavy use and also comes with a fast-clean button designed to make it even easier to use.

There’s a two-year limited warranty, which is longer than many other blenders on the market, which typically come with 12-month warranties.

This is a pretty good pick from the BLACK+DECKER range; if you’re going to be crushing plenty of ice, or you’d like a glass container, this is a great pick for you.

PROS

  • Pulse
  • 10 speeds
  • Dishwasher-safe parts

CONS

  • 450W motor
  • Unattractive design
  • Tall container
  • No pre-programmed settings

The 10-Speed Blender is another classic offering from BLACK+DECKER, with little to distinguish it from other blenders on the market. It has a pulse setting and 10 different speeds, and its parts are dishwasher-safe. The container is 1.5 quarts, 48-oz, which is fairly standard for a blending container.

The motor is only 450W (according to the manufacturer’s website here), so it’s not particularly strong compared to many other blenders on the market. The different speeds are activated by pushing buttons, all of which are raised, so may be hard to clean with spills. It has a two-year warranty, according to the manufacturer’s website here, which is fairly standard for this brand’s range.

On the whole this is a classic blender suitable for anyone who wants simplicity in their machine, and who isn’t too bothered about having better specs or a stronger motor. If you’re planning on doing plenty of liquidy blends, and you don’t care for the added bells and whistles of other machines, this is a good simple model for you.

PROS

  • Pulse
  • 10 speeds
  • Dishwasher-safe parts

CONS

  • 450W motor
  • Tall container
  • No pre-programmed settings

The BS600 Smoothie Maker is a very interesting machine, and the only one of its type that I’ve ever seen. It has a big 1.5L blending container that goes directly into a juice dispenser, so you can blend up a smoothie and then have it on-tap to pour straight into your glass. This is a cool feature that means you can keep your smoothie there if you want a couple of glasses over the day. Whether it is actually advantageous is unknown; it might be difficult to clean the tube between the blender and the dispenser (as with all smaller hard to reach areas), which could make this more difficult to use than it otherwise would be, and the container will need to be cleaned anyway. Thicker blends, like this ultimate plant based chocolate shake, might not pour through the dispenser properly.

Although this model only has a 450W motor, it’s claimed to be strong enough to crush ice. It has a pulse function and three different speeds to choose from. There’s little information about it, so the warranty is in question – it’s not shown how long it actually lasts for even after doing extensive research.

Please note that this model is not for USA or Canada per the voltage.

PROS

  • Pulse
  • 3 speeds

CONS

  • 450W motor
  • Unattractive design
  • Tall container
  • No pre-programmed settings
  • Unknown warranty

If you’re looking for a machine that’s powerful and effective, the Performance FusionBlade (BL6010) is your best bet. This blender has the highest motor strength of all the blenders listed here, so it’s going to be the best at blending just about anything. If you’re after a simple design and a powerful motor, this is the best model for you.
